I am Thai. I was born and raised in Thailand, a beautiful culture where food is magnificent, abundant, and so appreciated that it’s been “revered” as one of the culture’s deities.

Growing up, my family always had food at the center of everything, and often, in the amounts enough to feed an army. The more food we had, the merrier we were. But however much and however often I ate, there was constant hunger in me. So I kept eating. And despite my determination and countless efforts to cease the weight that never failed to pile on, I never succeeded.

Meanwhile, wherever I go in the world, I am expected to be with small stature. However, since I was born at a whooping 3,800 grams {8.38 lbs.} — twice the size of most newborn girls, and have continued to carry more weight than most grown women, for a very long time, I had to wear the ‘weightism' and ‘weight stigma’ that society had thrown at me on top of it. But when you looked at me, you’d never ever see the desperate longing to ‘fit in’ that I hid within deeply and well.

For many years now, America has been my home. One day, a relationship break-up led me to embark on a kind of journey that I’d never taken before {but still wishing for the same old goal that I never reached, hoping that this time, I’d finally be there}. Unforeseeably, I’ve been taken way further beyond what I could ever imagined. The break-up turned into a break-open, and so much has been broken loose.
